IPL T20 Country Records

The T20 country records give a sneak peak in to the comparative standings of teams in the context of world T20 cricket. These t20 country records are a good indication of how good their chances are in the upcoming ICC World T20 event in London.

T20 Country Records of Australia
Australia has not been the dominant world beater that it has been in other forms of the game – the tests and the one dayers. It has a success rate in the region of lower 50s.

Its best margin of a 95 run win batting first came against South Africa on 9th January 2006 at Brisbane and batting second its best win has been against Sri Lanka in Cape Town on 20th September 2007 when it won by 10 wickets.

T20 Country Records of England
England has not been able to fulfill its potential in the shortest form of the game in spite of having some of the finest allrounders in world cricket. In fact it has lost more matches than it has won. Batting first its best performance came against Australia whom they crushed by 100 runs at Southampton on 13th June 2005. While chasing its best margin has been that of 9 wickets versus New Zealand at Old Trafford on 13th June 2008.

T20 Country Records of New Zealand
Once again like England, New Zealand has not done much of note in T20 internationals like it has done in 50 overs cricket where it has the 2000 Knockout Trophy in its trophy shelf.

Batting second New Zealand’s highest margin has been 9 wickets versus Kenya at Durban on 12th Sep 07. Batting first its best margin has been that of 10 runs versus India at Johannesburg on 16th Sep 2007.

T20 Country Records of South Africa
South Africa has been one of the more prominent sides in the ultra limited overs cricket, as Sunil Gavaskar puts it. They have a success rate in the early 60s. Batting first its biggest margin of win has been 19 runs versus England at Cape Town on 16th Sep 07. While chasing its highest margin of win has been that of 10 wickets versus Pakistan at Johannesburg on 2nd Feb 2007.

T20 Country Records of West Indies
The t20 form of West Indies has been reflective of their performance in all forms of cricket in last few years. It has won lesser matches than it has lost. Batting first its best margin has been that of 15 runs versus England at Oval on 28th June 2007.Batting second its highest margin has been that of 7 wickets versus Australia at Bridgetown on 20th June 2008.

T20 Country Records of Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has been able to perform well in t20 internationals – it has been steady rather than spectacular. So far batting first its best performance has been a win by 172 runs over Kenya at Johannesburg on 14th Sep 2007. Batting second its best achievement has been a win by 7 wickets versus New Zealand at Johannesburg on 15th Sep 2007.

T20 Country Records of Pakistan
Pakistan has been able to adapt to t20 internationals rather wonderfully and have been able to produce the goods when it has mattered in the big tournaments. Batting second its biggest win margin was that of 8 wickets versus Kenya at Nairobi on 4th Sep 2007. Batting first its best win margin is 102 runs versus Bangladesh at Karachi on 20th April 2008.

T20 Country Records of Bangladesh
Bangladesh has been more or less unimpressive as it has been in tests, and to a little extent, in the one dayers. It has been able to spring a few surprises intermittently. Batting first its best performance was a win by 43 runs versus Zimbabwe at Khulna on 28th November 2006. Chasing runs its best is a margin of 6 wickets versus West Indies on 13th September 2007.

T20 Country Records of Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe has not been able to do as well as they might have hoped it to be. Batting second its best performance has been a 5 wicket win versus Australia at Cape Town on 12th September 2007. Batting first its biggest win margin is that of 109 runs versus Canada at King City on 13th Oct 2008.

T20 Country Records of India
India is the world champion of t20 international cricket – a fact that is remarkable given that it is not blessed with allrounders as is the order of this form. Batting second its biggest win has been that of 7 wickets versus Australia at Mumbai on 20th October 2007. Batting first its biggest win margin has been that of 37 runs versus South Africa at Durban on 20th September 2007.

T20 Country Records of Netherlands
Netherlands has not been exposed to too much of t20 cricket internationally with the exception of the World T20 qualifiers held in Ireland in 2008. However, its best win margin batting first has been that of 19 runs versus Kenya at Belfast on 2nd August 2008. Batting second its best win is one of 5 wickets versus Scotland at Belfast on 4th August 2008.

T20 Country Records of Ireland
Ireland has not played a lot of t20 internationals. However, its best win margin chasing has been one of 4 wickets versus Scotland at Belfast on 2nd August 2008 and versus Kenya at Belfast on 4th August 2008. Batting second its best performance is a 4 run win over Bermuda at Belfast on 3rd August 2008.

T20 Country Records of Scotland
Scotland has not been a good performer in t20 internationals. It had appeared in the previous ICC World T20 event where its performances were found wanting. Its best win margin is that of 9 wickets versus Kenya at Belfast on 3rd August 2008.
